‘Doing good’: actions speak louder than words

You’ve probably heard it all before. Companies who say that "doing good is a core value". We believe actions speak louder than words, and that’s why we’re proud to be launching as a Pending B-Corp.

“So what’s a B-Corp?” you may ask. Well, Ben & Jerry’s is one. So is Volvic. So is Patagonia, and so are around 3,500 other companies worldwide. What they have in common is a desire to use business as a force for good, and that’s us all over.

B-Corps balance profit with purpose. From the horse’s mouth, they’re “legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.” For us, that means making sure we’re bringing you beautiful products through sustainable supply chains. It means looking after the people who work with us. And it means ensuring that our products are produced in the right way, in line with our belief in the circular economy.

B-Corp values are important to us because...

More and more of us are considering our impact on the planet in the choices we make. We’re thinking about what products are made of and questioning where they come from. Thanks to media exposés, we’re more aware of the exploitation of both people and planet that all too often lies behind the things we buy from traditional retailers.

There has been a plethora of recent marketing reports and studies showing that consumers believe strongly that companies should look after the environment and that we’re putting our money where our mouth is - giving our hard-earned cash to companies we feel proud to support.

In short, we know that you care, so we want to make sure you know we care as well. That’s why the journey to B-Corp certification is so important to us.

It’s a no-brainer

We guess what we’re saying is that there wasn’t really a decision to be made - it was a no-brainer. The B-Corp way of doing things happens to fit our founders’ core values like a glove. We’re just delighted that our beliefs are shared by so many of you.

We need to have been trading for a year before we can get the full B-Corp certification, but the great news is we can still launch with ‘Pending’ status. To us, it just makes sense to start as we mean to go on - to implement the right practices and processes from the word go, so that we hit the ground running and don’t later have to change things that have become engrained.

Earning that coveted B-Corp stamp won’t be a walk in the park. It’s a rigorous process that’s already meant we’ve had to take a good hard look at every aspect of the business we want to create. There was plenty we hadn’t thought of, and it’s all critical to scoring highly enough to achieve certification once we’ve been trading long enough.

It’s going to be an adventure. We hope you’ll come along for the ride…
